I "know" you from HSA...and I just had a photography question. I love your pictures and was wondering if you mind telling me what lenses you use? I just bought my first SLR, the Canon Rebel T1i and I'm a bit overwhelmed. I want to buy a second lens but don't know where to start! Any advice or tips would be appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Lydia,

My favorite lens is Canon's 50mm f/1.4. It pretty much stays on my camera all the time. I also have a 18-55mm, which is handy when I need a wide shot, but it's not a real high quality lens. (It came with the camera.) My other lens a very nice telephoto lens (EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM), but sadly, I rarely use it. :/

I highly recommend the 50mm if you plan to do a lot of portraits. It's a nice lens and doesn't break the bank.

Sorry to bother you, I just had another quick question! Is there a big difference between Canon's 50mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.8?

Thank you so much!

I've never used the 1.8, but I've heard that it's built a little cheaper - more plastic, more likely to break. The 1.4 is a step above, as reflected in the price. The next step up would be the 1.2, which is a large leap in price.
